Nature Craft: Milkweed Pod Fairies

By Shanti Nordholt-McPhee, Twig and Toadstool

With the first day of fall just around the corner, we thought we would use some of nature's abundance and craft up some fairies with milkweed pods. Fairies are known to love flitting around milkweed, so it seemed very fitting!

To create you will need:

  • clothes pin doll
  • acorn cap
  • moss
  • 5 milkweed pods
  • paint brush
  • glitter
  • glue
  • glue gun

To begin:

Gather up your milkweed pods, blow the fluff free and allow them to dry.

Paint glue onto the inside of four of the milkweed pods and shake on glitter.
Allow it to dry.

Glue your wings onto your clothes pin.

Cut the very top off your remaining milkweed pod.

Glue the pod onto the clothes pin to create the fairy's dress. Glue the milkweed pod's inner strips to the sides of the dress for arms. Glue some moss on for hair and then glue on the acorn cap hat!

Your sweet fall fairy is complete!

You can now fly her in the autumn fields of brilliant beauty.
