IRL Crafting With Kids: Our Favourite No-Cook Play Dough

Sep 28, 2016

We've tried many play dough recipes, but this is one of our favourites. It's easy to make and it results in a very soft, silky and long-lasting play dough.

Here's how to make the play dough:

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon of glycerine
  • 3/4 cup of boiling water

Pro Tip: You can also add food colouring, glitter or essential oils for some extra play-dough pizzazz.

Pro Tip Part II: You can find glycerine in the first aid section of your local dug store.

Whisk together everything but the boiling water. If using food colouring or essential oils, stir into the boiling water. Pour the water into the main mixture. Mix well. Add glitter, if using. Allow it to cool for a few minutes. When it's cool enough to handle, knead the dough on a clean surface for 2 or 3 minutes. The dough might feel sticky at first, but don't add flour until it's fully cooled. By the time the dough cools, it will firm up into the perfect consistency. Have fun!
