Print Your Own New Year’s Eve Activity Bags To Fill With Goodies For The Big Night

Dec 26, 2018

This piece was written before 2020, when the world changed.

I'm getting so excited for our New Year's Eve celebrations coming up. Every year, it's the chance to relax and laugh with friends as we ring in a new year.

We've had a group of friends that we've done New Year's Eve with now for several years, since our kiddos were tiny. We've made the entire evening a family-friendly event where the kids can have fun alongside the adults.

Paper bags with times printed on them with party items and cupcakes around them

When we first started this tradition, the kids were still small enough that they were in bed by 8 p.m. Of course, now that they're growing, they want to be included in the festivities for as long as possible. Which typically means being up just as late as us!

These countdown bags have proven time and again to be an amazing way for the kids to celebrate the new year, and you can easily create them yourself. Just head to your favourite store for all the supplies you need. I stocked up in the party section, baking aisle, kids' art aisle, dollar bins and of course — the toy aisle!

Each bag has its own theme. There are lots of time options with the printables, so you can tailor the bags to your timeline. Download the printable here.

Here are a few of my favourite ideas for inside the bags.

Paint Your Favourite Memory

This bag has a little 4x6 canvas and washable, no-drip paint brushes tucked inside so that kids can illustrate their favourite highlight from the past year.

Create A Cupcake

Cupcakes decorated with clocks on them that are made from cookies

In our house, it’s not New Year’s Eve if there aren’t cupcakes. With this bag, the kids can decorate their own cupcakes. You can pick your favourite flavour to serve and then let the kids have at it with sprinkles, toppers and more! And what's better than eating your creation at the end? You can also use an edible marker to draw times on a cookie. Another fun, edible touch!

Sculpt Play Dough Snowmen

Snag some white play dough and various tidbits to get creative and make a darling mini snowman. Buttons and ribbon make perfect additions to this little guy.

Decorate Your Glass

I picked up little clear goblets and stickers and let the kids go to town with their creativity. We've done this in years past and the kids say their drinks taste better from these glasses.

Party With A Midnight Bag

This bag contains all the party trinkets: streamers, confetti, hats, noise makers — we have it all in here!

I hope that your family enjoys the New Year's Eve celebrations as much as we always do. Happy New Year!
