Remembrance Day Craft: Popsicle Stick Frame

As a child, my mom always took me to watch my grandfather march in the Remembrance Day parade, and when I had my own children, I started taking them with me. However, this year (due to health issues) my "Grampie" won't be marching, so my four year old and I decided to pay tribute to him with this delightful little craft stick frame. Want to make one with your little one?

What you'll need:

• 4 craft sticks
• a sheet of red paper
• green paint
• a paint brush
• 4 black buttons
• glue
• magnets (optional)

Directions:

1. Have your little one paint four craft sticks green.
2. After the paint has dried, use a 4 X 6 photo as a guide, and glue the ends of the sticks together to form a frame.
3. Cut out 16 hearts from the red paper. (I used a heart-shaped punch, but you can just do it freehand.)
4. Glue four hearts onto one corner of the frame to create a poppy. Repeat for all four corners.
5. Glue black buttons onto the centres of all four poppies, and allow the glue to dry.
6. Tape a picture to the back of the frame. (If you don't have a photo you want to use, you could cut out a 4 X 6 piece of paper and have your child draw a suitable picture.)

That's it! Cute, right? We added magnets to the back of our frame so that we could hang it on the fridge, but this step is optional. My four year old is very proud of the frame he made in honor of his Great Grampie, and it provided me with a great opportunity to talk to him about how important it is to honour our veterans.
