Star Of David Garland For Hanukkah

By Maureen MacMillam, Twig and Toadstool

Dec 1, 2015

The Star of David is the most common and universally recognized symbol of Judaism and Jewish identity. To prepare for Hanukkah, we made a simple Star of David garland.

Even if you aren't Jewish yourself, this craft is a great opportunity to introduce your children to another faith and to learn more about its customs and celebrations.

You Will Need:

  • blue and yellow card stock
  • scissors
  • white tissue paper
  • a glue stick
  • contact paper
  • ruler
  • hole punch
  • twine or ribbon

Supplies for Hanukkah Garland

Instructions:

1. To begin, get out your ruler and make some lines on the paper. We did our lines about 1.5 cm apart.

2. Cut your paper on the lines and you'll end up with a pile of paper strips.

Strips of yellow and blue paper.

3. Glue three strips together to make a triangle, then make another triangle. Lay one triangle on top of the other like this and you have your Star of David.

4. Lay the star down on a piece of contact paper.

Cut your white tissue paper into little squares. Now the fun part: stick the tissue paper squares onto the sticky side of your contact paper.

5. When your star is completely covered with tissue paper squares, cut it out from the contact paper.

6. Now punch two holes on each side of one point on each star, then weave your string or ribbon in and out.

Hang and enjoy! Happy Hanukkah!
