Studio K

From our home in Studio K in the Canadian Broadcasting Centre, our friendly and funny hosts and puppet characters bring a programming block filled with laughter, play, interactivity and great shows — both new and old.

Whether Skype-ing with kids across Canada, reading emails with Putter the computer, hitting the streets in Sumo Suits, or getting made-up by the Makeup Monster, our personalities engage viewers with their authenticity and humour.

Playing side-splitting games with celebrity guests, tackling outrageous challenges or hanging out with Gary the tap-dancing unicorn, our hosts are real and ready to play. Interactive and accessible, hilarious and lively, honest and fresh, the all-new CBC Kids lets fun lead the way every morning on CBC.

Meet the Team

Janaye

Janaye is a joyful, athletic and funny person, who brings a love of dance and song to CBC Kids. With a variety of film and television experience under her belt, Janaye has a natural comfort on camera and an infectious personality. Her authenticity and positivity make her the perfect addition to our team of hosts. As a mother of two small children, Janaye also brings a unique perspective that will be both valuable on-air and on the CBC Parents site.

Tony

Tony is a lovable and hilarious nerd hailing from Vancouver. In addition to being a star improviser, Tony has a number of acting credits to his name. Tony brings with him a variety of musical talents including vocals, rap, piano, and clarinet. He is always at the ready to defend his title as Comic Book Nerd Champ, in either English or Vietnamese. His warm, youthful energy and comfort on camera make Tony feel like an instant friend.

Cottonball

Cottonball is a supremely confident, always on trend, lovable pop star cat. As viral star on “Cat Tube”, Cottonball knows a thing or two about success and she’s always ready to help others find their inner cat. She is the founding member of the E.I.P. club - Everyone’s (an) Important Person. Cottonball believes in the Shine Theory — “I don’t shine if you don’t shine”. She knows that surrounding yourself with the best of friends makes you great. Her confidence is infectious and the hosts take her advice to heart, even though it may be ambitious or a little cat-heavy. Cottonball is the best friend we need, fur and all. She’s a cat like that.

Mr. Orlando

As a CBC Security Guard, Mr. Orlando takes life seriously and would like others to do the same. This curmudgeonly moose loves order, rationality, organization and quiet. Mr. Orlando tries to keep his universe in check while surrounded by the boisterous and playful hosts (troublemakers) who are “creating content”...whatever that means. He’s passionate about what his interests (have you SEEN the latest Murdoch Moosteries?) and takes pride in his work. Mr. Orlando may put up a thorny exterior, but deep down he has a fatherly affection for all the hosts.

Putter

Putter is the digital soul that runs CBC Kids’ Studio K and Green Room, but he’s more than nuts and bolts. Like Google with an attitude, Putter has personality and isn’t afraid to use it. Putter is an animated screen that opens doors, gathers emails, edits videos and broadcasts CBC Kids on-air and online. No small feat, thank you very much! The gang has to be careful to treat Putter with respect or else they might find important emails disappearing, or an extra large bottle of prune juice ordered to their office! He can go into every screen, surfs the web inside and out and always has a question at the ready.

Gary

As an Intern/Hug Lover/Best Friend extraordinaire/Fun Aficionado, Gary always goes above and beyond the call of duty. Filled with a childlike sense of wonder and positivity, this tap dancing unicorn has landed his dream role here at CBC Kids. His random, silly tangents will make school aged kids laugh, while his ability to wear his heart on his sleeve will make Gary beloved by pre-schoolers. He is the founder of “Gary’s Hug Club” — a club that gives out hugs to anyone who wants one (give 5 hugs, get 1 for free!) As the Intern, Gary is often on the move helping the show run smoothly and supporting our hosts, especially his idol Victor. Gary is a superfan of the world and a walking brain fart - but when life gives you lemons, make rainbows.
