On the evening of February9, Rosanna Deerchildwas MCing an event at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, when she found outthat Gerald Stanley, a farmer from Saskatchewan, was found not guilty in the death of Colten Boushie, a First Nation man from Red Pheasant Cree Nation. She took to the stage and shared the news with the audience.

Cree activist Erica Violet Lee has close ties to ColtenBoushie'sfamily, and helped start the Justice for ColtenBoushieGoFundMe campaign.
