Blue Jays acquire Drew Storen from Nationals for Ben Revere

The Toronto Blue Jays traded for bullpen help, acquiring Drew Storen from the Washington Nationals for outfielder Ben Revere.

The Toronto Blue Jays traded for bullpen help on Friday, acquiring Drew Storen from the Washington Nationals in exchange foroutfielder Ben Revereand a player to be named later. The Nationals will also send cash to the Blue Jays in the deal.

Storen, 28, appeared in 58 games for the Nationals last season, recording 29 saves with a 3.44 ERA, adding 67 strikeouts in 55 innings. In 2014, the six-foot-oneright-hander posted a 1.12 ERA, to lead all National League relievers. Hehas 95 career saves over his six seasons, with a career-high 43 in 2011.

On Saturday, the Jays' newest addition had some fun with the trade news on Twitter, updating his profile to say that he is a "Pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays and apparently now a Drake fan."

He also tweeted that he's "incredibly excited" to be headed to Toronto and asked when he would get to meet the city's most enigmatic Twitter persona, Ward 40 Coun. Norm Kelly.

Kelly, known for his pithy and sometimes perplexing tweets, responded by welcoming Storen to "the 6ix" and adding that he's "gunna love it here."

Revere, 27, was acquired by the Blue Jays from the Phillies onJuly 31, postinga .319 average with Toronto in 56 games. The left-handed hitter added 31 stolen bases on the season, his fourth season with 30 or more.

Revere could assume the centre field and leadoff job that former Nationals playerDenard Span held. Span joined San Francisco this week as a free agent.

Storen will be a free agent at the end of the 2016 season,andRevere can file for arbitration on Jan. 12.
