Hockey Day in Canada will broadcast in Inuktitut

Proving hockey is a universal language spoken by all Canadians, the 10th annual Tim Hortons Hockey Day in Canada on CBC will mark the first broadcast of an NHL game in the Inuktitut language.

On Jan. 30, starting at 2 p.m. ET, CBC North broadcasters Charlie Panigoniak and Annie Ford will call the game between the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens in Inuktitut.

That broadcast will be complemented by the Punjabi broadcasts of the 7 p.m. ET game between Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the 10 p.m. ET match between the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.

Parminder Singh will handle play-by-play duties with Harnarayan Singh providing analysis and all broadcasts will be available live and on-demand at CBCSports.ca.

Tim Horton's Hockey Day in Canada will begin broadcasting coast-to-coast starting at 12 p.m. ET from Stratford, Ont., with Ron MacLean hostingfrom the William Allman Arena alongside Don Cherry, Scott Morrison, Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Jeff Marek, Dick Irvin and Wendel Clark.

While the central hub of Hockey Day in Canada is Stratford, the festivities span the entire country through six satellite locations:

• St. John's, N.L.: P.J. Stock and Rob Zamuner will be on hand with the NHLPA Goals and Dreams fund to donate 50 complete sets of hockey equipment to young, underprivileged hockey players.
• Ottawa: CBC News' Evan Solomon will brave the elements to host the Senators' alumni team shinny game on the famed Rideau Canal.
• Gimli, Man.: CBC's Mitch Peacock will be rinkside to coverthe action from the Gimli Minor Hockey Pee Wee Tournament.
• Estevan, Sask.: Karin Larsen follows the Estevan Atom and Novice girls hockey tournament being played over the weekend.
• Auburn Bay, Alta.: Scott Oake and Kelly Hrudey report live from a local 3-on-3 tournament on the lake of a relatively new developmenttrying to forge a sense of community through hockey.
• Victoria: Scott Russell hosts from the Hockey Night in Canada Presents Play-On fourth annual National Championships, as 30 teams compete for the Redwood Cup and the title of "Canada's Greatest Street Hockey Players."
