Connor McDavid shows potential and speed in NHL debut

Rookies were the talk of the NHL on Thursday night, as Connor McDavid made his highly anticipated debut, while No. 2 draft pick Jack Eichel scored in his first appearance.

Edmonton Oilers rookieConnor McDavid made hishighly anticipated debut in St. Louis against the Blues on Thursday night.

The expectations and pressure placed on the18-year-old phenomdidn't seem to effect him as he madea rather quiet introduction to the NHL, registering his first shot on net in the third period with the game locked at 1-1.

His two scoring chances in the final frame were unthreatening, but his upward potential was still obvious. The 2015 No. 1 draft pickwent coast-to-coast in his first opportunity with the puck.


McDavid finished the game with twoshots, 18:07minutes of ice time, and a minus-1 rating.

Edmonton ultimately fell to the home team 3-1.

Two other rookies hadmuch more successful debuts on Thursday nights. The 2015 second-overallpick Jack Eichelscored for the Buffalo Sabres on a third periodpower-play in a 3-1 losing effort against the Ottawa Senators.


With all eyes on McDavid, under-the-radar St.Louis Blues rookie Robby Fabbri surprised withfirst NHL goal in the third period, which also held up as the game winner.
