In a recent contribution toThe Players' Tribune, Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo spokeemotionally about the loss of former NHLer Steve Montador and what can be done to prevent further tragedies.

Montador, who suffered from concussions and battled addiction at times during his NHL career, passed away at the age of 35 in February. He walked away from the game in 2013 after 12 seasons.

Carcillowas devastated by the loss of his good friend, but also found the strengthto offer his thoughts on devoting more attention to helping players transition to life after hockey.
