The Canadiens have traded forward Rene Bourque to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenceman Bryan Allen in a deal that is getting people talking on social media.

Bourque joined the Canadiensin the 2011-12 season and has scored only 21 goals and 17 assists in 141 games. He has yet to score a goal this season.

"I'm happy and looking forward to coming there," Bourque said in a phone interview. "Obviously, I still feel like I have a lot left and I can help the team win."

The 32-year-old wing scored eight goals in 17 playoff games during Montreal's run to the Eastern Conference final, and Ducks general manager Bob Murray believes Bourque still has NHL goal-scoring ability. He will join the Ducks' roster as soon as he sorts out any immigration issues.

"They're a powerhouse in the Western Conference for quite a while now," Bourque said. "They're built like a playoff team. They have a lot of big forwards, and Bob told me I fit their style of play."

Allen is equally lacklustre with his only recent significant contribution being the 75 penalty minutes he amassed last season.

Here's what people are saying about the trade.

Good one.

That's a good point, room under the salary cap is maybe worth putting Allen on your team. Bourque has over $3million US left on his contract so dumping him will give the Canadienssome money to play with.

I guess you never can have too many defenceman but ideally you want ones that will help.

Laughing seems harsh.

It is impressive that they got anything more than a microphone for Bourque.
