Gordie Howe watches salute from Detroit fans

Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, got a first-hand look Friday at how much the hockey world loves him. Especially Detroit. On Friday he was engrossed by the salute from Joe Louis Arena where the Detroit Red Wings were hosting the Los Angeles Kings.

Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, got a first-hand look Friday at how much the hockey world loves him. Especially Detroit.

The 86-year-old National Hockey League legend, recovering from a stroke at his daughter's home in Lubbock, Texas, has been receiving praise and prayers from the hockey community who looked up to him as one of the game's first superstars as well as from various generations of fans across North America.

On Friday he was engrossed by the salute from Joe Louis Arena where the Detroit Red Wings were hosting the LosAngelesKings.

Gordie was no doubt inspired by the fans' best wishes as well as the Wings 5-2 victory over the Kings.
