Canada's divers get another shot at Olympic qualifying

Canadian divers will get another chance to make their case for inclusion on the Olympic team this weekend in Windsor, Ont., at a FINA World Series event.

Canadian divers will get another chance to make their case for inclusion on the Olympic team this weekend in Windsor, Ont., at aFINA World Series event.

It is one of just two competitions remaining for divers to qualify before the national Olympic trials in June. The final World Series event of the year goes next week in Kazan, Russia.

The action inWindsor will be streamed live on CBCSports.cabeginning Friday at noon ET, with more coverage on Saturday and Sunday on both CBCSports.ca and CBC Television.

On the women's side, Roseline Filion helped her cause by winning the 10-metre platform at last weekend's CanadaCup Grand Prix in Quebec. Vincent Riendeau did the same in the men's 10-metre platform.

In the men's 3-metre springboard, 18-year-old Philippe Gagne looks to have an edge over his synchro partnerFrancois ImbeauDulac.

Meaghan Benfeito has already secured her individual 10m Olympic spot, and will partner with Filion in the 10mplatformsynchro in Rio.

Also already qualified are Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware inthewomen's3mspringboardsynchro. Abel and Ware have also booked spots in the individual events.

The Windsor event will give them another chanceto make Olympic preparations against high-level competition.

If scores between competitors remain closeafter the final competitions, the Olympic trialson June 11-12 inScarborough, Ont., will determine who goes to Rio.
