Catharine Pendrel adds cycling World Cup to Olympic bronze

Canadian cyclist Catharine Pendrel claimed the overall cross-country cycling World Cup title on Sunday. The Kamloops, B.C. native finished the season with 1030 points, enough for her third overall title.

Canadian cyclist CatharinePendrel claimed the overall cross-countrycycling World Cup title on Sunday.

Pendrel, whoovercame an early crash to win won bronze at the Rio Olympics, finished third at the final cycling event of the season in Andorra. TheKamloops, B.C. nativefinished the season with 1030 points, enough for her third overall title.

"World Cup champion feels so good after thesuffer-festout there today,"Pendrelsaid in a pressreleasefrom Cycling Canada. "It wasn't the prettiest race but it got the job done."

Pendrelwas joined on the overall podium by Brooklin, Ont.'sEmily Batty. Batty's 12th-place finish was good enough to secure third in the final standings.Annika Langvad of Denmark was second.
