Haiti earthquake killed 58 Canadians

The number of Canadians who perished in the earthquake in Haiti has been revised upwards to 58, says Ottawa's Department of Foreign Affairs.

"Based on all information available to us, our assessment of the number of Canadians who perished in the Haiti earthquake is 58. There are no Canadians unaccounted for. We will be updating our website shortly," said Dana Cryderman, a department spokeswoman in Ottawa.

The updated toll is based on"information coming from families, witness accounts and RCMP investigations," she told CBC.

The department previously said 46 Canadians had diedand 14 were unaccounted for.

Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, was hit by a 7.0-magnitude quake on Jan. 12 that claimed nearly 100,000 lives.
