The government said 223 people are under detention in Jammu and Kashmir, but 'no one is under house arrest'.

Abdullahs considerable influence over people, including the ability to attract voters to polling booths despite poll boycott calls and the potential for channelling energies of public for any cause, has been cited in support of his detention under PSA.
Omars father, Farooq Abdullah, was booked under the PSA in September last year.

"Those who will go to jail, will become leaders. Let them be there," said Satya Pal Malik.
Iltija Mufti has left Kashmir after 16 days under house arrest. Her mother, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, remains detained.
With leaders and workers detained, opposition parties' offices are deserted, but the BJP is immune to the lockdown.
The plea had sought withdrawal of curfew/restrictions and other alleged regressive measures including blocking of phone lines, Internet and news channels.
