Jack Miles

Jack Miles is the general editor of the Norton Anthology of World Religions. Miles won the Pulitzer Prize in 1996 for his book God: A Biography and is a former MacArthur "Genius" Fellow (2003-2007). He served as senior fellow for religion and international affairs with the Pacific Council on International Policy. Miles is a former president of the National Book Critics Circle and, from 1985 to 1995, served as the editor of the Los Angeles Times Book Review, director of the newspapers book prize program and a member of its editorial board. He has published previously in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, the Atlantic Monthly and several foreign newspapers. He has lectured or taught at Harvard, Princeton, Yale, the University of Chicago, the University of Groeningen in the Netherlands, the University of Bologna, the University of Sydney, Australia and others. Senior advisor to the president of the J. Paul Getty Trust for several years, he was named senior scholar in residence at the Getty Research Institute in 2006-2007, after which he accepted an appointment as distinguished professor of English and religious Studies at the University of California, Irvine, and director of UCIs Program in Religious Studies.
