92-Year-Old Husband Sweetly Serenades Wife For 50th Anniversary

True love does exist.

After 50 years of marriage , 92-year-old Harvey Wosika planned the sweetest surprise for his wife Mildred: a song.

The pair celebrated their golden anniversary with approximately 150 friends and family on August 7 two days after their actual anniversary date  at the Newkirk Senior Citizens Center in Oklahoma. At the celebration, Harvey got down on one knee to sing “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” to his longtime love.

His (slightly embellished) lyrics read:

Let me call you ‘sweetheart,’ I’m in love with you.

Let me hear you whisper that you love me, too.

Keep the love light glowing in your eyes so true.

Let me hear you whisper, ‘I love you!’

Only their daughter, Dawn Ranee McDonald  who also filmed the video above knew of Harvey’s plan to serenade his wife at the celebration.

“He’s full of surprises sometimes,” 90-year-old Mildred told The Huffington Post. “I thought, ‘Oh my! Isn’t that wonderful?’ I loved it.”

Harvey who claims he can’t sing simply thought the song would be a nice way to show Mildred he appreciates her.

The Wosikas wed back in 1966. Harvey retired from the military and moved to Oklahoma with his children from a previous marriage in 1964. Mildred worked in Harvey’s brother’s café at the time. Mildred and Harvey’s children introduced the two, and a friendship developed.

“God brought us together,” Mildred said. “We both were divorced. It just seemed like we hit it off. Our kids got along together real well.”

Harvey and Mildred’s friendship blossomed into a romance. Harvey knew things were getting serious when Mildred’s eldest daughter asked him to give her away at her wedding.

“I thought, ‘wow, they really do think something of me,’” Harvey told HuffPost. “That was really an honor.”

Harvey and Mildred wed soon thereafter. They have 11 children between the two of them, in addition to 35 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

“He’s a good man,” Mildred said of Harvey. “He’s been a good husband and good father to our kids. I can’t complain!”
