You'd think that the point of wearing expensive, high-quality designer dresses is that they wouldn't rip like cheaper clothes.

And yet somehow celebs' dresses always seem to be malfunctioning, from straps detaching to fabric splitting . Anne Hathaway is the latest victim, suffering a dress malfunction before she hit the red carpet at the 2013 BAFTAs .

"I was getting ready for the BAFTAS and I was wearing this beautiful dress," Hathaway told Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" on Wednesday. "This dress has been custom-made for me by this designer and designed with me in mind." [Ed. note: By whom, Anne? By whom??]

Alas, those pesky zippers: The thing broke as Hathaway was getting zipped up. So after a botched sewing attempt and some deliberating, Anne's team gave up and put the actress in the sleek, black Burberry gown we eventually saw on the red carpet .

You'd think Anne would be more prepared for such wardrobe malfunctions. Her dress strap ripped at the Critics' Choice Awards, her SAG Awards dress didn't zip up properly and then there was that famous no-underwear moment from her "Les Miserables" premiere.

You poor thing, Anne. Promise you'll keep all your undergarments on and your clothing intact at the Oscars ?
