In the two months since giving birth to her son Tobias, Bethany Hamilton seems to have successfully balanced her pro surfing career , an upcoming autobiographical documentary and her work as a motivational speaker .
There's one thing, however, the 25-year-old shark attack survivor just can't understand about modern day motherhood: All the talk about postpartum bodies.
"I've seen many comments on 'post birth body ,'" she wrote on Twitter.
"I find it silly for us as women to worry about our body as we grow a human being inside of us," she added. "It is such an amazing feat to go through pregnancy."
Although fitness has always been a passion of hers -- in 2014, she wrote about her approach to health in "Body & Soul: A Girl's Guide to a Fit, Fun and Fabulous Life " -- Hamilton is encouraging mothers to embrace, and be patient with, their post-baby bodies.
"It's natural and HEALTHY to gain weight ," she tweeted, along with a photo of herself from Instagram.
While Hamilton embraces the changes in her body, she's also focused on getting back to what she loves: Surfing.
She's been invited to compete as a wildcard in a September surf competition, making it her first competition since the birth of her son.
"I've been on game prep since, training hard and surfing a lot!" Hamilton wrote on Instagram. "Having this opportunity has led me to speed up my postpartum recovery and I'm feeling really strong, healthy and ready!"
Below, see how Hamilton, her husband Adam and baby Tobias have found their new normal.
