Beyonc Admits She 'Did Not Want' Daughter Blue Ivy, 12, Onstage During Tour

Despite the singer's initial reservations, her daughter earned the opportunity to perform, she said.

Beyonc  is admitting that she hesitated to let her eldest child, Blue Ivy Carter , join her onstage during her Renaissance tour last year.

Speaking with GQ for its October cover story, the 32-time Grammy-winning singer said that despite those initial reservations, her 12-year-old daughter earned the opportunity to perform alongside her during the global tour.

Shes a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage, Beyonc said in the story, published Tuesday.

The Single Ladies crooner, who also shares twins Rumi and Sir with husband Jay-Z , gushed over her eldest child.

Blue is an artist. She has great taste in music and fashion. She is a fantastic editor, painter and actress, her mother shared. She has been creating characters since she was three.

Blue wanted it for herself, Beyonc explained. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes.

Beyonc had previously admitted that she changed her mind about letting the tween hit the stage after making a deal with her.

I made a deal with her and I said, If you practice and you show the commitment, Ill let you do one show, the star said in her 2023 documentary Renaissance: A Film by Beyonc , E! News reports .

I did not think it was an appropriate place for an 11-year-old on a stadium stage, Beyonc admitted. All the things that I had to go through the obstacles I had to overcome prepared me, and she hasnt had that struggle.

The duo previously appeared together at the singers Dubai concert in January 2023, where they performed their Brown Skin Girl collaboration for the first time live.

Blue appeared onstage during the Renaissance tours stop in Paris last May to perform My Power and Black Parade, but faced online criticism over her dance moves .

Unfortunately, she caught wind of the internets negative comments.

But Blue, the second-youngest person to win a Grammy Award , said she used the backlash as fuel to improve her moves.

I feel like now my mindset has changed, E! News reported her saying in the Renaissance film, which hit theaters in December 2023. I actually have to wake up in the morning and go to rehearsals, and I actually have to work hard.

I can see that the more I do it, the better I become, she added.

In October, Jay-Z praised his daughter for reclaiming her power after all the online hate.

What makes me super proud and I still get goosebumps seeing her walk onstage is because Blues been ... born into a life she didnt ask for, the rapper told CBS Mornings in October.  Since she was born, shes been in scrutiny and public eye, and everyone having an opinion even [on] a little girl, how she keeps her hair.

He continued, So for her to be on that stage and reclaim her power, and the song is called My Power ... you cant write a better script.
