Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen s wife and longtime bandmate, revealed in a new documentary that shes been living with a form of blood cancer since 2018.

Scialfa, 71, shared her multiple myeloma diagnosis in Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, a documentary that premiered Sunday night at the Toronto International Film Festival . In the film, she says the condition has made it a challenge for her to tour.

This affects my immune system, so I have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go, she says in the documentary, according to multiple outlets . Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs on stage, and thats been a treat. Thats the new normal for me right now, and Im OK with that.

Scialfa married Springsteen in 1991, seven years after joining his band on its legendary Born in the U.S.A. Tour. Shes performed as a vocalist and guitarist in the E Street Band ever since, though shes taken a step back in recent years due to her illness.
