There Are 22 U.S. Cities Where Women Actually Earn More Than Men

Across most of the U.S., women make less than men. But 22 American cities actually buck that trend.

In Inglewood, California, for example, women make $1.20 for every dollar a man makes, according to a new analysis of full-time median income by the personal-finance site NerdWallet. That's a far better situation for women than in the U.S. as a whole, where women make about 79 cents for every dollar a man makes, according to the same analysis.

Inglewood is the city where women out-earn men by the largest margin, according to NerdWallet. What's notable about the list of cities below is that many of them are pretty poor places. Most of the 22 cities had median incomes in 2013 that were lower than the national median income that year of $28,031.

Here are the cities where women make more than men:
