No, "The Colbert Report" was not canceled. But that didn't stop #CancelColbert from trending on Twitter on Thursday, March 27. The hashtag came as a response to a tweet from the @ColbertReport Twitter account. The tweet, which has since been deleted, said, "I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever ."

Offended readers responded with by tweeting with the hashtag #CancelColbert , saying that the tweet pushed the limits of Colbert's ultra-conservative persona too far. The quote originally appeared on Wednesday night's episode of "The Colbert Report," during a bit in which Colbert mocked Redskins owner Dan Snyder for creating a foundation to support Native Americans . You can watch the whole segment in the clip above. Though the comment was said in the context of the on-screen version of Colbert, when the quote stood alone, many on Twitter accused Colbert of being racist.

Comedy Central runs the @ColbertReport Twitter account, and Colbert himself responded from his own account:

Comedy Central did not return immediate request for comment.
