Hillary Clinton seemingly savored a full-circle moment on Monday during her Democratic National Convention speech when the audience chimed in to chant, Lock him up.

The three-word chant was a jab repurposed for former President Donald Trump , the twice-impeached, felony-riddled Republican presidential nominee who repeatedly advocated for Clinton to be jailed with his own chant of Lock her up when she faced him as the Democratic rival in 2016.

Clinton walked onto the stage in Chicago to Brave by Sara Bareilles as the crowd applauded for an extended period of time.

Something is happening In America. You can feel it, the former secretary of state said. Something weve worked for and dreamed of for a long time.

[Harris] locked up murderers and drug traffickers. She will never rest in defense of our freedom and safety, Clinton said.

Donald Trump fell asleep at his own trial. And when he woke up, he made his own kind of history: the first person to run for president with 34 felony convictions, the former senator and first lady said.

As the crowd began to chant Lock him up, Clinton smiled but did not respond an action that contrasted with Harris cutting short the chant as it began at one of her recent rallies.

Kamala Harris is for the people, Clinton said Monday night. That is something Donald Trump will never understand. So it is no surprise, is it, that he is lying about Kamalas record, he is mocking her name and her laugh. Sounds familiar. But we have him on the run now.

As she walked off stage, Rachel Plattens Fight Song played, an echo of her 2016 campaign.

Clintons highly anticipated speech comes nearly eight years after her opponent, Trump, was elected.

Im not going to sugarcoat it: These have been very, very tough days, Clinton said on a call with campaign staff and volunteers after the 2016 election. This is a hard loss for all of us because we know what was at stake in this election and we have to do everything we can to continue to support the causes we believe in.
