His manipulated clip of two Chinese divers plunging into plastic cups is going viral, garnering almost 10 million views on Imgur in just two days.
The 8-second GIF begins normally enough, showing Chen Aisen and Lin Yue leaping from the 10-meter board during their gold medal-winning synchronized dive on Monday.
But as they’re about to hit the pool water, they swoop into the beakers instead.
“I first thought of the idea when I saw them jumping so perfectly,” Nik, from Atlanta in Georgia, told the BBC. “So I challenged myself to see if I could do just that.”
Nik’s outstanding effort has won him legions of fans, and even caught the attention of British rock band Coldplay.
The gif follows #PhelpsFace as one of the viral sensations of the Games.
