Former U.S. attorney Harry Litman on Monday said he believes the table is set for the indictment of Donald Trump in special counsel Jack Smiths investigation into the former presidents attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
Theres one main signal, Litman, now a legal analyst, told MSNBC s Joy Reid.
That is, everything theyre talking about in terms of witnesses they have to interview, they dont need the grand jury for, but it is customary, he explained. And in this case, it will happen that Trumps lawyers will be afforded a final chance to come in and make a last-minute plea, which will not succeed, but they have the opportunity.
Litman noted Trumps increasingly unhinged rhetoric about the probe.
Last week, Trump shared a video on his Truth Social platform in which he is heard saying: If you fuck around with us, if you do something bad to us, we are going to do things to you that have never been done before.
The hysteria levels from Trump are hitting the stratosphere because this is one that he would know about, Litman said of the possible indictment.
So, to me, the table is set, Smith is ready to go and thats what the target letter means, save only you guys coming in or not? And by the way, you cant take two weeks, you know, come in off the pitch after that. Heres the indictment, he added.
