Yes, Mucus Is Gross, But It Helps Keep You Healthy. Here's How.

Winter is coming, and for many of us that means snowfall, comfy sweaters and, unfortunately, runny noses. But before you curse the reason for all those tissues, watch the TedEd video above. It'll help you appreciate the slimy stuff.

Mucus is your body's first line of defense against intruders: It removes threatening substances that could otherwise make you sick. It also lubricates your eyes so you can blink and covers everything in your body that isn't already covered in skin. So, no, mucus isn't just in your nose and your throat -- it's everywhere.
