There is a pattern, a discernible pattern, of Democratic officials seemingly trying to convince you, the public, to not believe what you saw and what you heard with your eyes and with your ears on Thursday night, Tapper said at the opening of CNN's The Lead.

But behind the scenes, make no mistake, most Democratic officials witnessed the same shocking spectacle that you did, he continued.

Tapper had Biden national co-chair Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) on later in the episode. When Tapper asked about Bidens dearth of press conferences, Coons tried to pivot the conversation to Trumps lies during the debate.

This is not the discussion that were having, Tapper stopped him, then said Biden could settle concerns about his age and cognitive fitness by holding a lengthy press conference.
