When historians look back and try to decipher the outlandish dynamics of the 2016 presidential election, they may well find that it was defined by a case of David defeating Goliath. Throughout the Summer of 2016, Donald Trump and his unorthodox, Islamophobia-tinged campaign towered over America, a foreboding Goliath. Up through July, no matter how hard they tried, no Democrat, Republican or Independent could summon an offensive that would suitably weaken Goliath. Then along came David, who would prove to be an unassuming Muslim-American man simply defending his belief in our core American values of with the help of Americas most valuable asset - the Constitution. David was a man by the name of Mr. Khizr Khan.

Khizr Khan, whose speech at the Democratic National Convention in July 2016 touched America at its core and sparked a backlash against Trumps rampant attacks against minorities of all stripes, is a gentle, learned soul. He is a man who will look you straight in the eye and speak to you directly from his heart - even if he only met you mere hours prior. He will shower the child of a total stranger with the very love he would shower his own sons. And in an environment of heightened Islamophobia across America, he, as a Muslim-American, may have saved America from itself with his poignant public remarks.
