Lady Gaga's Tribute To David Bowie At The Grammys Was Wildly Entertaining

Lady Gaga's much anticipated tribute to the life and music of the late David Bowie at the 2016 Grammy Awards on Monday night was just as wild and fun as everyone was hoping it would be.

In just a few short minutes, Gaga stormed through Bowie hit after Bowie hit, and she did so while also being careful to pay honor to his carefully crafted aesthetic , as well. 

Gaga, who channeled Ziggy Stardust on the red carpet  before hitting the stage, was able to squeeze in references to "Space Oddity," "Changes," "Ziggy Stardust," "Rebel, Rebel," "Let's Dance" and "Heroes," among many others.

Bowie died in January after a prolonged battle with liver cancer. Just days before his death, he released his final album, "Blackstar." The album's producer, Tony Visconti, said Bowie created "Blackstar" as a "parting gift " to his fans after more than four decades in the public eye.

Gaga had been previously scheduled to perform at the Grammys before Bowie's death, but decided to take on the task of honoring the artist's life at the urging of the show's producer , Ken Ehrlich.

Other artists had approached Ehrlich about participating, but Ehrlich decided he wanted Gaga to perform alone as she was so highly influenced by him. In an interview shortly before Bowie's death this year, Gaga explained what Bowie meant to her as an artist. 

"I always felt that his glamour was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls," she said at the time.
