Laverne Cox and Baby Reindeer star Nava Mau shared a touching moment Sunday night on the 2024 Emmys red carpet .

Cox, who served as an E! News host for the carpet event, fought back tears as Mau approached her for an interview ahead of the ceremony.

Im supposed to keep it together. Im the host, the Orange is the New Black actor said. Im so proud of you. Im so proud of you. (Watch the video here .)

Cox then reflected on how she became the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an acting Emmy 10 years ago.

Fast forward to this years Emmys, Mau made history by becoming the first trans person to be nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for her performance in the Netflix thriller Baby Reindeer.

Ten years later, Im not the last, Cox said, noting that Maus now the fourth transgender person to earn an Emmy nomination.

I think that what weve been fighting for as a community, is to be able to tell stories that come from the heart. And that are based from a human foundation, Mau said. Because thats who we are as trans people we are humans.

The Baby Reindeer actor said that shes very proud of the show.

Ultimately I hope that we continue to get to be all that we are as trans people onscreen, she continued.
