Maggie Smith's Memory Honored With Social Media Tributes

Maggie Smiths death on Friday in London at the age of 89 inspired many of the two-time Oscar winners fans and co-workers to share tributes on social media.

Among those paying their respects was Smiths Sister Act co-star Whoopi Goldberg , who celebrated the British actor with an Instagram post:

Maggie Smith was a great woman and a brilliant actress. I still cant believe I was lucky enough to work with the one-of-a-kind. My heartfelt condolences go out to the familyRIP, she wrote .

The official Harry Potter Instagram page also celebrated Smiths portrayal of Professor Minerva McGonagall in all eight films, saying , Her quick wit and formidable presence as the Head of Gryffindor House made sure Hogwarts was always in safe hands.

Other tributes followed on X, formerly Twitter, including current British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his predecessor, Rishi Sunak .
