Marc Jacobs to Christian Dior?
Not gonna happen, new reports say. According to Women's Wear Daily, the designer is no longer a frontrunner for the high-profile creative director job, as had been previously thought. And not because Christian Dior does not want Jacobs -- rather, Jacobs does not want Dior.
The same goes for Phoebe Philo of Celine, writes WWD , as well as Riccardo Tisci over at Givenchy. And Alber Elbaz at Lanvin. And Balenciaga's Nicolas Ghesquiere. And Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen.
Does anyone want this job?
In late August, rumors swirled about Jacobs taking the creative director position at Christian Dior , which has sat vacant since the dramatic firing of John Galliano in March after a series of drunken, anti-Semitic outbursts .
"According to sources," wrote WWD, LVMH head Bernard Arnault was in talks with Jacobs about the position and that "the American designer and Dior management are so far 'excited' about the prospect."
Yet talks seemed to stall over salary disagreements and and now the move is seen as unlikely. WWD says today that other designers such as Alexander Wang, Raf Simons and Jason Wu have been approached, as designers like Philo and Tisci are seemingly more and more unlikely.
So who might it be -- Simons? It is hard to imagine up-and-comers as young as Wu and Wang to ditch their own lines and rising stars for an ageing couture house, but perhaps the high-profile name will prove alluring?
