Tyreek Hill, a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, was detained by police on  Sunday on his way to Hard Rock Stadium to play the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He was detained for a driving violation, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told reporters, according to Sports Illustrated .

Rosenhaus said Hill still plans to play in Sundays season opener.

This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police, the Miami Dolphins wrote on social media . He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for todays game.

Rosenhaus said the detention was completely unnecessary and that he was very distraught about it. An eyewitness video shows Hill on the ground.

According to ESPN NFL reporter Jeff Darlington in conversation with Rosenhaus, Hill was given a ticket for a moving violation entering the stadium.

Stephanie V. Daniels, the director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, said in a statement to HuffPost that they are aware of the detainment.

I have requested an immediate review of all details surrounding the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage, Daniels said. We will provide updates as further information becomes available.

Daniels also shared a statement on the police departments account on X , formerly Twitter, where she said she has initiated an internal affairs investigation and that one of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation takes place.

Im committed to transparency and accountability to the community with any situation involving my officers, Daniels said.
