Music lovers, its that time of year again. The biggest and brightest names in the industry were honored on Wednesday at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards at New Yorks UBS Arena.
This year, the annual ceremony was hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, who also pulled double duty as a performer. After an opening performance from Eminem, breakout stars Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and GloRilla, plus Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Quavo, LL Cool J, Shawn Mendes and more hit the stage.
Katy Perry received the coveted Video Vanguard Award and performed a career-spanning medley of her biggest hits ahead of her next studio album, 143 and even brought out Doechii to join her on stage.
Taylor Swift took home a plethora of big awards this year, including Video of the Year with Post Malone. Other artists who won big this year include Carpenter, Roan, Eminem, Tyla, SZA and Megan.

Megan Thee Stallion clearly did her VMAs homework: She pulled out a snake to recreate Britney Spears iconic 2001 performance with a giant python. But the moment quickly ended when she demanded someone come get it off of her.
I dont know this snake, and this snake dont me sounds like something Id jokingly (but seriously) say, because I dont play those reptile games.

OK, theres a lot to say about Katy Perrys performance before she accepted the award for the Video Vanguard Award, but her fianc Orlando Blooms reaction to the medley of songs is really something else.

The rapper has been rocking dark hair and a dark beard for a while now, but I guess he felt the need to pay homage to the look that helped him become famous. The wig was kinda lifted up in the back and starkly contrasted his dark beard (which also kinda look freshly dyed?) hey, you like it, I love it! After seeing Glenn Close in a couple wild wigs in “The Deliverance,” there is absolutely nothing that will shock me when it comes to hair and celebrities at this point.

Chappell Roan accepted the Moon Person for Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards and thanked her LGBTQ fans in her speech. "I dedicate this to all the drag artists who inspire me, and I dedicate this to queer and trans people who fuel pop," Roan said in her speech. "For all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now, I see you, I understand you, because Im one of you."
LL Cool J Is Still Very Much The GOAT
Ive never seen a phrase age so well, but LL Cool Js VMAs performance reminded everyone why hes still the greatest of all time. Accompanied by Def Jam Records labelmates Public Enemy, the hip-hop legend blew through some of his greatest hits in a throwback tribute to his iconic career (sorry, Def Jam, this actually wasnt for your 40th anniversary).
From Headsprung to Doin It, LLs catalog sounds just as fresh decades after he declared himself the best to ever do it. And how is he 56 years old still looking that fine??? Someone tell these new rappers to step their game up because LL is absolutely crushing them.
GloRilla Didnt Let a Wardrobe Malfunction Ruin Her Epic VMAs Debut
YEAH, GLO! This performance gave big-budget, as it should have after the year GloRilla has had. Its only right that she opened with one of her biggest songs yet, cementing her place among the women currently dominating rap.
It would've been nice to see her bring out Megan for their Wanna Be collab. But its dope that GloRilla got to have her solo moment for her VMAs debut. Even with a wardrobe malfunction, she still handled herself like a pro. And finishing out with her summer hit TGIF was just *chefs kiss*.
