At the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend, Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer drew attention to an up-and-coming advocate for equal pay for women in the film industry: LeBron James .

Spencer said that the NBA star, who is an executive producer for a new Netflix series alongside the actress, had to intervene during negotiations over the pay she would receive for her work on Madam C.J. Walker.

Much like C.J. Walker, the black self-made millionaire that Spencer plays in the upcoming series, Spencers talent has brought her critical acclaim, with roles in blockbusters including The Shape of Water , Hidden Figures and The Help.
