Galliano Comeback? Oscar De La Renta Welcomes The Disgraced Designer To His Studio

Could spurned fashion designer John Galliano be coming back into fashion's good graces?

Women's Wear Daily reports today on a huge development: none other than Oscar de la Renta has invited the disgraced designer to spend some time with him while working on his new collection in his New York design studio over the next three weeks.

John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent, de la Renta told the publication. He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to reimmerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate in an environment where he has been so creative.

Galliano will reportedly assist de la Renta with the collection he'll show at New York Fashion Week in February. Though the shunned former creative director has had several others speak up in his defense over the years -- Grace Coddington , Patricia Field , Manolo Blahnik -- this very public embrace could be the move he needs to forge a real comeback.

As you remember, Galliano, 52, was axed from his plum position at Christian Dior in March 2011 -- and dismissed from his own label -- following a now-notorious drunken anti-Semitic rant caught on tape. He's since been in recovery for alcoholism and has been spotted in London and Paris.

Will Oscar throwing out the A-list welcome mat bring Galliano back to fashion royalty? It's certainly a bold, bold move.
