In what will surely be a highlight of Pope Francis' first visit to the United States, the Catholic leader held a historic meeting with first dogs Bo and Sunny Obama during his visit to the White House.

On Wednesday, Pope Francis met with President Barack Obama at the White House. After speaking to a crowd of 11,000 on the White House's South Lawn, the pope and Obama toured 1600 Pennsylvania, posing for photographs on the Truman Balcony and inside the Oval Office .

Most importantly, the pope had a personal audience with the Obamas' Portuguese water dogs, Bo and Sunny . The moment was captured by White House photographer Pete Souza:
