Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) issued a statement saying he “misspoke” when he told CNN on Wednesday that the Republican National Committee had been hacked.

McCaul told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that Russian hackers “are not discriminating one party against other.”

Sean Spicer, communications director for the Republican National Committee, quickly denied McCaul’s claim, tweeting that “there has been no known breech”:

McCaul said he meant to say that “in addition to [the] DNC, Republican political operatives have also been hacked.”

Democratic National Committee emails were leaked earlier this year. Both President Barack Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton  said Russia was behind the hacking, releasing the emails as a show of support for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump .
