J.K. Rowling gave out some sage advice for people missing their moms on Mother's Day in the U.K. on Sunday.

The "Harry Potter" author advised people whose moms aren't around to instead "do something nice for yourself."

She sent the following message to her 6.9 million followers on Twitter and also pinned it to the top of her account:

In a matter of hours, the message was retweeted more than 5,000 times, with many fans praising her for the sentiment.

It's certainly something to hold on to when the U.S. celebrates Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May.

According to the Daily Mirror , Rowling's own mom died aged 45 in 1990 from complications related to multiple sclerosis.

The author and mother of three has since donated $14 million to set up the charitable Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. The facility, which opened in 2013, focuses on a wide range of neurological conditions, especially neurodegenerative diseases.
