Why We've Got The Wrong Hamilton On The $10 Bill

Work, work! Eliza!

Journalist and author Cokie Roberts is cool with there being a Hamilton on the front of the $10 bill, but she feels strongly that it shouldn't be Alexander. Instead, Roberts suggests Alexander Hamilton's wife, Eliza Hamilton.

Last week, the U.S. Treasury Department announced abolitionist Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the new $20 bill , and five other historic women will be featured on the back of the $10 bill . But Roberts thinks adding a few female faces to our currency isn't enough -- especially when it may now be decades before we see a woman on the front of American currency.

The decision to leave the first Secretary of the U.S. Treasury  on the currency is "equivalent to relegating women to the back of the bus," Roberts says in the video above. "Once again, we women will have to wait our turn. I sure hope I’ll be alive to see it."

Watch the video to learn more about what Roberts thinks could've been done to honor women.
