Indiana police rescued five zebras, four camels and one miniature horse from the blaze before corralling the wandering menagerie from the interstate.
Stuart the zebra was exploring, running and chasing the impalas in the zoos Impala Plains habitat when the tragedy occurred.
A sheriffs deputy killed the animal after it continued to charge at first responders.
A plot to capture the runaway animals will require two more zebras.
