A jury acquitted Ahmed Abu Khatallah of all but four charges in connection with a 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya.
Federal prosecutors argued Ahmed Abu Khatallah "hates America," is "guilty as sin" and is a "stone-cold terrorist."
U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the 2012 attack.
Saif al-Islam's whereabouts are unclear.
