The city of Louisville agreed to pay $2 million to settle lawsuits filed by Kenneth Walker in federal and state court.
Protesters across the country expressed pain and anger after a grand jury declined to charge any officers in the death of Breonna Taylor. The 26-year-old Black woman was home asleep with her boyfriend when police executed a no-knock warrant for an investigation that did not involve either of them.
Kenneth Walker III contends his constitutional rights were violated when officers carried out a lethal raid of Taylor's apartment while searching for drugs not found.
Kenneth Walker "was framed and charged to cover up Breonnas killing," defense lawyer Steve Romines said. "This is but a first step.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Kenneth Walker told CBS's Gayle King that he found out his girlfriend died in the police shooting when he watched the news while he was wrongly detained.
A newly-reported ballistics record is undermining the claim that the officers who shot and killed Breonna Taylor were acting in self defense.
The firefighter received a racist, threatening note days before the attack.
