An Oct. 8 trial date has been set for two Nevada men accused of damaging rock formations estimated to be 140 million years old at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
In November 1922, seven land-owning white men brokered a deal to allocate water from the Colorado River, which winds through the West and into Mexico.
Three other bodies were found in May and July as water levels continue to drop at the nation's largest reservoir.
More human remains were found in Lake Mead as water levels continue to decline.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
The discovery comes as Lake Mead sees its lowest water levels since it was first filled eight decades ago.
"It's not a bad place to dump a body," said former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.
A body found inside a barrel on the newly exposed bottom of Lake Mead is that of a man who had been shot, Las Vegas police believe.
As the American West suffers through a megadrought, we should expect to find more human remains on lake bottoms.
The Bureau of Reclamation says the reservoir is just 39 percent full.
Negotiators for California, Arizona and Nevada are expected to sign an agreement to help stave off another round of mandatory cutbacks.
