The Netflix comedy will shift the focus away from Aziz Ansari's Dev when it returns May 23.
The "Master of None" writer and star said she feels "so free and so happy and so joyful" with her short do.
A Netflix exec said the streaming service would certainly be happy to make another Master of None season with Ansari, but didnt commit to a release timeline.
"Queer black characters have been the sidekick for long enough, its time for us to finally take the lead, she writes.
