Officials say South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been released from prison on parole after serving nearly nine years in prison for killing his girlfriend.
Pistorius, who had his 37th birthday this week, was sent to prison in late 2014 for killing his girlfriend by shooting her through a toilet door at his home.
The South African track star killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.

Former Olympic sprinter and Paralympian is serving a sentence for the murder of his girlfriend.
A South Africa court resentenced Pistorius to over 13 years in prison for the 2013 murder of his girlfriend.
The athlete was originally convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to five years in jail.
He had been given six years in prison for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.
Its another reminder of who legal systems are built to protect.
The prescribed minimum jail term is 15 years.
