A new group is fighting back against anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and hate at a time when community members are increasingly worried about being targeted.
The plans to memorialize the 49 victims of the 2016 gay nightclub shooting have hit a number of fundraising challenges in recent years.
"The simple truth is this: We just want to live. Is that so much to ask?" Pulse survivor Brandon Wolf asked legislators.
The hearing comes as hateful acts and rhetoric continue across the country.

"This is kinda deja vu, reliving it all over again, said Tiara Latrice Kelley, who performed at Orlando's Pulse nightclub before the 2016 mass shooting there.
Mark Henson, 63, now faces a charge of felony criminal mischief for the Oct. 12 blaze.
Security video from the incident shows an unknown suspect setting an outdoor wall displaying banners, photos and flowers ablaze.
"Theres nothing worse than having to wait and wonder what happened," the president said.
Five years after the deadly mass shooting, the legislation will create a national memorial at the gay nightclub in Orlando where 49 people were killed.
The Latin pop superstar will lend his support and promote tolerance via social media posts, video messages and narrating exhibitions.
